What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of clear, custom aligners that can straighten your child's teeth without traditional braces.

Based on a customized treatment plan, a series of custom aligners will be created to fit your child's teeth during each stage of their treatment.

What is Invisalign Teen?

Invisalign Teen is a line of clear aligners that was created to meet the specific needs of teenagers.

With Invisalign Teen your child gets the same clear, removable plastic aligners as treatment for adults, but with a number of additional features that make the process easier for teens including compliance indicators, stageable eruption tabs and replacement aligners.

What are the primary features of Invisalign?

Invisalign clear aligners are:

  • Discreet when worn
  • Smooth, comfortable construction
  • Do not require adjustment appointments
  • Removable for eating, brushing and flossing

What are the added features of Invisalign Teen?

Invisalign Teen aligners offer the following additional features:

  • Compliance indicators
  • Stageable eruption tabs
  • 6 sets of replacement aligners

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign's clear plastic aligners are designed to move your child's teeth by tiny increments during their treatment. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and then replaced with the next one in the series.

This process will continue until your child's teeth are in their desired positions. The length of their Invisalign treatment will be determined by your dentist based on their unique needs.

How long does Invisalign take?

Only your pediatric dentist can determine the duration of your child's individual Invisalign treatment. That's because factors like the misalignment of their teeth and jaw, the shape of their bite, and the amount of movement required to correct the issues will all affect the process.

What are Invisalign aligners made of?

Invisalign aligners are made with USP Class VI medical-grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resins, and are BPA free.

How often does my child have to visit the dentist?

Invisalign aligners do not require any adjustments or tightening, so your child will only need to visit the dentist for brief appointments every four to six weeks during their treatment.

At these appointments, your pediatric dentist will review their progress and general oral health and answer any questions you or your child may have.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of Invisalign treatment depends on your child's individual case. For example, the more severe their misalignment issues, the more aligners they will need and the more treatment will cost.

Generally, the cost of Invisalign treatment is comparable to that of traditional metal braces.

How will Invisalign fit my child's lifestyle?

Most patients find that Invisalign fits very comfortably into their daily lives.

Because your child can remove the aligners for eating, drinking, brush and flossing, there are no dietary or lifestyle restrictions.

Also, because of the low profile appearance, many people won't even notice your child is wearing Invisalign aligners, so the impacts on their social life are minor.

Are there any food or drink restrictions?

No! Because your child can take Invisalign aligners out to eat and drink, they can continue to enjoy all the foods and drinks they love!

How many sets of aligners will my child need?

Your pediatric dentist can give you an accurate estimate of how many aligners your child needs and how long their treatment will take based on their specific case.

How often does my child have to change their aligners?

Generally, patients switch to their next set of aligners about every two weeks. Your pediatric dentist can tell you exactly how often your child should switch out their aligners based on their individual treatment plan.

How does my child clean their aligners?

  • Rinse the aligners each time they are removed.
  • Soak the aligners using denture cleaner, Retainer Brite, and/or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals.
  • Brush and floss teeth before putting the aligners back in.
  • Gently brush the aligners with a clear, anti-bacterial soft soap, and then rinse them off.

Can my child play sports with Invisalign?

Your child can remove their clear aligners while they play sports so you don't have to worry about them getting damaged.

You may also want to invest in a sports mouth guard to protect your child's teeth during sports.

Can my child play an instrument with Invisalign?

Yes! Your child can remove their aligners to play an instrument, and put them back in when they're done.

How does my child store their aligners?

Invisalign aligners will come with a storage case, and this is where your child should keep them whenever they remove them to keep them safe.
